Mr. Elie peacefully passed away at a local hospice facility.

CHARLES J. ELIE, affectionately known as “CJ” by family and friends, was born January 7, 1938 in Natchitoches, LA. He was the fourth of five children born to the union of Albert and Bessie Elie. CJ and his family later moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he attended school and graduated with high academic honors from Booker T. Washington High School. His first job came at the age of ten, delivering newspaper and cutting lawns. This was just the beginning of CJ’s journey as a hardworking young man.

After high school, CJ moved to San Diego, California to join his high school sweet heart, Shirley Bradford. They were later united in holy matrimony.

During the late 1950s, he began working for Unimart as a warehouse worker and ultimately with Price Club, now known as Costco.

CJ loved his family. He was a very quiet man, who enjoyed his privacy. Many knew him as a person who said what he meant and meant every word that he said. He had many sayings; such as, “I rather have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it”. He would often address others as “hey guy”. His favorite pastime was working on automobiles and camping in his motorhome with his family. He enjoyed watching football. His favorite team was the Indianapolis Colts. CJ also enjoyed taking long drives through the city and along the coast, watching westerns and the history channel.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Danny C. Elie; one sister, Dorothy Taylor, and his only brother, Robert “RL” Elie.

Charles J. Elie passed away quietly on Friday, April 12, 2013. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Sherry Elie Johnson and her husband, Marvin; two sons, Demiche A. Elie and Robert W. Elie; two sisters, Evelyn Fuller and Helen Wardell; grandchildren, Mezhron Evans, Turqoise Elie, Danielle Elie, Takayla K.
