CHARLES E. CHAMBERS, SR., better known as “Charlie,” son of the late Doris Chambers and the late Dorsey Chambers, was born on November 10, 1949 in Clarksville, Maryland. He departed this life on the morning of his 66th birthday, November 10, 2015, after a strong and courageous battle with cancer.
Charlie graduated from Glenelg High School in Glenelg, Maryland in 1967. After high school, he was employed by W.R. Grace and Company in Columbia, Maryland as a utility worker. Beginning in 1969, he served in the United States Army as a military police officer stationed in Herlong, California. After his military service, Charlie worked for the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company in Baltimore, Maryland for more than 23 years. In 2001, he became an insurance customer service representative for PDP Group Inc. in Cockeysville, Maryland. Charlie retired in 2014.
In 1974, he married the late Carolyn Chambers, and out of their 35-year union, two children were born – Charles Jr. (“C.J.”) and La Keesha. In 2010, Charlie began dating Sheila Williams, who was a committed caregiver for Charlie until the very end.
Charlie was a devoted member of Locust United Methodist Church in Columbia, Maryland, which he attended with his family since he was a little boy. He served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Vice President of the United Methodist Men, and a member of both the Finance Committee and the Matured Christians Club.
