Charles Earl Cone Jr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 14, 2021. Earl was born on March 21, 1926 in Midland to the late Charles and Edith (McKeachie) Cone.
Earl served in the United States Army during World War II at Pearl Harbor. Immediately following military discharge, Earl found employment with Consumers Energy for which he worked for 42 years. On May 26, 1951, Earl married Julia Marie Mitchell at St. Brigid Church in Midland. Earl enjoyed traveling ‘the big circle’, hunting in Clare with family, skiing the West, and reading The Wall Street Journal daily.
Earl showed great compassion and devotion as he cared for his wife, Julia, at home until her passing in 2014 due to Alzheimer’s disease. Earl is survived by his five children, Mary Jo (Larry) Lang of Traverse City, Bill (Lynne) Cone of Traverse City, Margaret Cone of Washington DC,, Karen (Steve) Martin of Midland, and Paul (Susan) Cone of Saginaw. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Ray Cone; and sisters, Irene Bailey and Joanne Dorton.
