Charles E. Spurr, 83, formerly of the 2300 block of West Fourth Street, died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Rose View Center with his family at his bed side following an extended illness.

Charles and his wife, the former Ruth H. Bailey, observed their 21st wedding anniversary on April 19, 2010.

Charles was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post 1, Williamsport and an avid fisherman.

Charles was a retired truck driver for the former Charles Chip Co.

Born August 1, 1926 in Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, he was the son of Barton T. and Esther Schumn Harrison.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Hazel E. Spurr (Harland) Temple of Muncy; stepdaughter, Marian E. VanSant of Avoca; stepson, Donald Messner of Cogan Station; grandsons, Michael Temple and Chris Spurr; step grandchildren, Kay Heid and Scott Jensen; great grandchildren, Isabella and Jonathan Spurr and six step great grandchildren.

The family suggests contributions may be made in his name to the Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701
