Charles Edward “Chuck” Belcher, 68, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at his farm surrounded by his family after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Chuck was born December 20, 1946 in Bloomington to the late William Edward and Maxine J. Belcher.

Chuck was a 1964 graduate of Bloomington High School where he participated in football, basketball and track. Chuck received his love of sports honestly, working his summers in his fathers’ businesses: Southern Sporting Goods and Southern Boat Docks at Lake Lemon. Following his high school sports career he had a great love for all IU sports especially Baseball, Basketball and Football. He was an avid Colts fan and season ticket holder. Chuck was a high school basketball referee for several years traveling across the state, refereeing games, having fun and never missing a call. As a Papaw, Chuck enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren at their sporting events and around the farm.

Chuck was the owner and operator of Belcher Construction. You could always find Chuck operating some type of heavy equipment, whether it was moving dirt or running a job on campus. Chuck got his start in business with Charles Richardson, later working for Ralph Rogers and Weddle Brothers before starting his own business. He was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 841 and a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church where he was an Usher and Server. Chuck also owned and operated C&S Simmental, where he bred and showed cattle across the country.

Survivors include his wife Sharon (Mahaffey) Belcher of Bloomington, two daughters; Natalie Clark (Justin) and Nicole Van Sant (David) both of Bloomington, four grandchildren; Haylee Clark, Hayden Clark, Hudson Clark and Dillon Van Sant and one brother Rick Belcher (Sally) of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
