Charles E. “Charlie” Brown, 83, of Jacksonville, IL died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
He was born November 7, 1929, in Virginia, IL, the son of Charley and Ada Taylor Brown. He married Charlotte Dustin on December 15, 1968, in Virginia and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, John Brown (wife, Janice) of Wyanet; a daughter, Linda Noel of Springfield; three stepdaughters, Nancy Anderson and Sarah Reische, both of Jacksonville, and Carolyn Hitchcock (husband, Mike) of Lewistown; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Ina Trenter of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Brown, and two brothers, Lynn Brown (surviving wife, Doris of Virginia) and Owen Brown (surviving wife, Margie of Virginia).
Charlie was a long-time carpenter and craftsman working as a member of Carpenters Union Local 51. He worked with Fernandes Construction Company for 15 years. He retired in 1989 following several years in the maintenance department at Jacksonville Developmental Center. He was a member of Jacksonville Community Christian Church, Jacksonville Moose Lodge # 865, Jacksonville Elks Lodge # 682, and Ducks Unlimited. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, creating craft projects, hunting, and fishing. He was a devoted fan of NASCAR racing and St. Louis Cardinal baseball.
