Charles Dwight Pugh, 93, of Centralia, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Charles was born August 14, 1925 in Jefferson County, son of Etta (Cooper) Pugh and Everett Hawkins. He married Edna Mae George on July 22, 1946 and she preceded him in death.

Charles served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Cornerstone Methodist Church formerly Demaree Methodist Church in Centralia. Charles worked in construction for 40 years. Charles is survived by two daughters: Pamela Melton and husband Dewey of Centralia, Illinois and Elizabeth Maroney and husband John of Walterboro, South Carolina; two sons: Charles Pugh and wife Cindy of Troy and Michael Pugh and wife Debbie of Salem, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Dee Dee Campbell and husband Jeff of Centralia, Illinois, Doug Melton and Marissa of Oakdale, Illinois, Jason Pugh and wife Jodi of Collinsville, Illinois, Ashley Hammonds and husband Dave of Godfrey, Illinois, John Henry Maroney and iwfe Holly of Raeford, North Carolina, James Maroney and wife Donna J. of Cheraw, South Carolina, and Kendra Davis and husband Shannon of Centralia, Illinois; 17 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.

He is also survived by one sister, Mildred Braddy of Crevat, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers: Harold Pugh, Lowell Pugh, Clyde Hawkins, Virgil Hawkins, Leon Hawkins, and Everett Hawkins, Jr., and three sisters: Grace Braddy, Erma Orrill, and Margaret Byars.
