Brother Charles Douglas Edwards was born on March 8, 1950 in Lisman, Alabama to the Late Brother L. J. Edwards and Sister Alma Jackson Edwards. He entered his eternal transition on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Halcyon Hospice Center after a hospitalization at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
Charles attended Choctaw County Training School in Lisman, Alabama where he participated in several school activities including basketball. After high school, Charles graduated from Tuskegee University where he majored in Business and Marketing. He successfully began his career by working with IBM Corporation in Boston, Massachusetts. He later moved to Atlanta where he was employed and subsequently retired from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Afterwards, Charles continued to use his skills to work with Fulton County Board of Education, City of Atlanta, and Morehouse College.
Charles united with the Shiloh CME Church at an early and continued his church affiliation with the Providence Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA. Charles’ affinity for his home church has always been deep. Hence, it was his desire to have his family church as his final resting place.
Charles was loved by many. He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Charise Michelle Stephens, Macon, Ga.; one son, Akeem Elijah Edwards, Atlanta, Ga.; Mother, Mrs. Alma Edwards, Lisman, AL; four brothers; Lee (Rose) Edwards, Lisman, Al,; Donald (Bernice) Edwards, Florissant, Mo.; Luther (Geraldine) Edwards, Lisman, Al.; Michael (Kenya) Edwards, Murfreesboro, Tn.; two sisters, Magnolia Edwards, Mobile, Al. and Truddie (Alvin) Darden, Atlanta, Ga. Charles has two grandchildren, Camden and Kayla; four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, a Godmother, Gladys (Percy) Johnson, Mobile, Al. and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
