Charles Robert “Bob” Burns
Bob Burns passed away at a local assisted living facility on Saturday October 24, 2015 with his loving family by his side.
An only child, Bob was born December 31, 1931 in Olathe, Colorado, to Charles H “Charlie” and Maude Marie (Cooke) Burns. As a small child, Bob moved with his parents to Nampa, Idaho. His summers were spent in the Bakersfield, CA area where his family had a produce business. Bob graduated from Nampa High School in 1950 and went on to attend college at University of Idaho, University of Oregon and College of Idaho where he graduated in 1955. It was at College of Idaho that he met his wife Helen Laurene Novis. Bob & Laurene were married July 10, 1955 in Winnemucca, NV and celebrated their 60th anniversary this past July. Together they raised 5 children.
After the death of his father in 1969, Bob shut down the business and began his career with Blue Cross of Idaho where he was well liked and respected.
Bob’s early retirement years were spent enjoying their place in Cascade and traveling in the motorhome in search of antiques and enjoying our beautiful country. Bob’s life-long dream of seeing the Panama Canal was realized in 2004 with a cruise shared with family and friends.
Above all, Bob was a loving father and grand-father who supported his children and grandchildren in their every activity from coaching Little League, driving the “Burns van” on many trips transporting players to various sporting events, his active participation in PTA’s and Booster Clubs and attending every game, recital, concert or event that his children and grandchildren participated in. He was also an avid fan of the Seattle Mariners and Boise State Broncos.
Bob will be forever loved and missed by his wife Helen Laurene Burns of Nampa, five children, Jayne (George) Burnett of Caldwell, Chuck (Ami) Burns of Gold Canyon, AZ, Tom (Julia) Burns of Bothell, WA, Laurie (Andy) McCluskey of Caldwell and Martin (Lisa) Burns of Clarkston, WA; grandchildren, Todd Burnett, Amanda (Mark) Tompkins, Heather Burns, Natalie (Sergio) Gutierrez, Alexandra Burns, Jordan Burns, Melissa (Sean) Hackett, Molly McCluskey, Josh Burns and Marisa (Eric) Rayborn; great-grandchildren Addilyn and Dyllan Tompkins, Joseph and Sebastian Garcia, Mariah Robinson, Thalia and Tysin Gutierrez, Cassidy, Maddie and Brianna Hackett, Scott and Bodie Rayborn, sister-in-law Marlene Brownlee and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H and Maude Marie Burns, in-laws, Laurence & Helen Novis and sisters-in-law, Kathy Davlin and Maxine Hill.
Heartfelt gratitude to the amazing caregivers at Clearwater House in Nampa and to Horizon Home Health and Hospice for the loving care they provided to Dad and the love, support and continued care they provide to Mom and to our family.
