On May 13, 2013, Charles went to join his wife of 58 years, Janet, who had passed away in January. He had just recently celebrated his 95th birthday. Though his body was failing him, he still had his mind and his own teeth. He was born on May 6, 1918 to Charles Holloway Boardman and Cleo Margaret (Swaim) Boardmanof Columbus, Ohio. He was the oldest of three sons. His brother, Jack predeceased him, but his brother, James is still living in Columbus.

Charles graduated from Ohio State University withaBChem Engineering and an ROTC commission in 1940 and anMScChem Engineering in 1941. He was employed by Dow Chemical Co in Michigan when called to active duty after Pearl Harbor in WWII. Lt.

As a civilian again, Charles found employment in the manned space program at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. He was employed first by General Electric Corporation in the Apollo Launch Support Program as a logistician in charge of launch control room instrumentation systems support (1966-1971) and then by Pan American World Airways as an Environmental Specialist in their Occupational Medicine and Environmental Health Department (1971-1981). It was during this last employment with Pan Am that he and his wife, Janet, and family enjoyed worldwide travel and shared their experiences with others at their presentations at the Cocoa Beach Library.

During his retirement from the military he became a regular blood donor. By 1996 he had donated over 140 pints and he was selected to be one of the Olympic Torch bearers as it passed through Cocoa Beach on its way to Atlanta.

He also became interested in his family history and has traced almost all family ancestors back to the original colonial immigrants to America and several lines back for many centuries. His research results are on CD#4 of the Family Pedigree Series published by the Latter Day Saints at Salt Lake City. He belonged to many local and national genealogical societies and served as ROTC Awards Chairman in the Brevard County Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution for many years.
