Charles “Chic” Banchiere, 92, of Greensburg, formerly of Lewistown and Oakmont, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016. He was born in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Angelina (Scalzo) and Samuel Banchiere. Charles was predeceased by his siblings, Robert Banchiere, Alphonso Banchiere, Mickey Banchiere, Kathryn Tamburro and Ida June Stanley. Charles was the husband of Dolores Canuti Banchiere, who died in 2012. Chic graduated from Oakmont High School in 1942. He graduated with a degree in metallurgical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. Charles was a much loved father and beloved grandfather. He is survived by his children, Nancy Bisbe (Robert), Diane Banchiere, Gregory Banchiere and Robert Banchiere (Robyn); five grandchildren, Michael Bisbe, Matthew Banchiere, Kathryn Banchiere, Brandon Banchiere and Rachel Banchiere; and one great-grandchild, Perseus Banchiere. He was a husband, father, grandparent and veteran who dedicated his life to his family and his country. He served as a copilot of a B-24 bomber in the European Theater in World War II, with the 15th Air Force, 464th Bomb Group, and in the Korean War in the 20th Air Force, 19th Bomb Group as copilot and flew a total of 66 combat missions. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross among other combat awards and citations. Charles exemplified the loyalty, devotion and sacrifice of those of his generation. His dedication and unlimited generosity to his family was unfailing. Chic was often seen walking the perimeter of the Hannastown Golf Club, picking up roadside garbage and poorly shot golf balls. He was an avid golfer, supported his local Boy Scouts with recycled materials and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
