Charles Allen Meeks (Chuck), age 49, of Forreston died Wednesday June 21, 2006 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan 8, 1957 in Freeport, He was the son of Glenn and Thelma (Julius) Greenfield of Forreston. Glenn Greenfield died on Sept 22,1958. Thelma married Norman Meeks on August 2, 1963 and Norman adopted Chuck on August 25, 1965.He was educated through the Ogle County Special Education System. He worked at the Village of Progress in Oregon, IL until his health no longer permitted. He participated in Special Olympics from 1968 until 2005. He participated in the 2005 State Meet in Normal, IL.
He enjoyed bowling, basketball, track and the softball throw. He lived his life by the Special Olympics motto, “Let me win, But if I cannot win, let me brave in the attempt..” He attended Forreston Grove Presbyterian Church his entire life. He faithfully attended and never wanted to miss a single Sunday. He was a loving son, brother and uncle. His nieces were his pride and joy and loved to attend their sporting, cheerleading and dance events.
Chuck was a dialysis patient for 22 years, first at Rockford Memorial and then at Davita in Freeport He was one of the area’s longest patients on dialysis due to his excellent care by Dr. John Maynard, Dr. Hugh McHugh, the staff at Rockford Memorial, the Davita Staff in Freeport and especially by his mother Thelma who paid close attention to his diet and medications.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters Cynthia Meeks of DeKalb, Debra (Timothy) Apel of Freeport, Lisa Meeks of Raleigh NC and Tracy (Todd) Walper of Tokyo, Japan. Also nieces Tera, Ashley and Erin Apel of Freeport, April Braden of Chicago, Taylor and Kaylee Walper of Tokyo Japan. Uncles and Aunts which include Roger (Jane) Julius and Allen Julius of Freeport. June Donaldson, Jonesboro TN, Doris Earnest, Port Orange, Fl Marian(Bob)Ratmeyer and Larry(Sandy) Greenfield of Forreston.
He was predeceased by his father, grandparents Grace and Alvin Julius, Albert and Esther Greenfield and Hollis and Clara Meeks, Also by many aunts and uncles.
