Charles A. Whitmore, 77, of Dayton Township, died July 16, at his home. Mr. Whitmore was born August 29, 1928 in Chicago to Gordon Allen and Della (Ciolli) Whitmore. He married Gladys (Evans) Manley on August 30, 1996. Mr. Whitmore was the owner of Whitmore Chevrolet for more than 30 years until 1980. He was an Investment Advisor for Richard B. Vance and Company, then a Financial Planner for the Investment Center.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and then his MBA in 1950. He was a Platoon Leader and Exchange Officer in Korea and was a Captain in the Army 2nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He also served in the Illinois National Guard and Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the Ottawa Boat Club, Staved Rock Yacht Club, and Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Big Bend Duck Club.

He helped establish the Community Hospital of Ottawa and served as Chairman of the hospital Board of Governors and served as Chairman of the building committee. He was an active member of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce, serving two terms as Chairman. He served as Chairman of the Greater Ottawa, Inc., helping to bring numerous business and industry to the Ottawa area. He helped develop Allen Park as a member of the JCs.

His hobbies included flying, boating, skiing, hunting, and trap/skeet shooting. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, two sons; Mark (Debbie) of Fon du Lac, WI, and Bruce (Romelle) of Round Lake; three stepsons, Patrick Manley of Bloomington, Sean Manley of Ottawa and Rob (Dorothy) Knott of Grafenwoehr, Germany; two grandchildren Jennifer and Julia Whitmore; three step grandchildren, Brian Guillmette, Selina and Daniel Knott; one sister, Delores (Jack) Schick of Oak Forest.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Barbara, and a son Geoffrey.
