Charlene E. Hill, 78, of Ashland, IL and formerly of Baylis, IL died Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.
She was born June 9, 1933 in Meredosia, IL; the daughter of Charles and Nina Surratt Ferguson. She married Charles L. Hill Sr. on May 28, 1950 in Bowling Green, MO and he preceded her in death on October 3, 2003.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Hill Jr. (wife, Rita) of Ashland and Franklin Hill (wife, Cara) of Arenzville; three daughters, Barbara Nowack (husband, Richard) of Ashland, Teresa Caruso (husband, Richard) of Lewes, DE, and Cindy Klingele of Quincy; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Jacqueline Jones of Mediapolis, IA; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved companion and fiancé, Bill Booker of Baylis. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles Ferguson.
Mrs. Hill attended Meredosia, Baylis and Barry Schools and graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield. She was employed for many years as a staff nurse for Dr. Henry Rohs at the Springfield Clinic and later served as a nurse for Walker Nursing Home in Virginia. She was a member of New Beginnings Church in Ashland. She enjoyed antiquing and was an accomplished Victorian Era decorator.
