Mrs. Cockrell was born January 22, 1911 in the Sugar Loaf Community of Coryell County, the daughter of Charles Monroe Elms and Mary (Garner) Elms. Charlcie was a 6th generation Texan and was a descended from several pioneer central Texas families including the Elms, Garners, Clements, Polks, O’Neals and Harbours, all of whom were in Texas prior to 1860, with the Harbours being the first to arrive here, coming in 1825 as a part of Austin’s 2Nd Colony.
She married Chester “Chet” Cockrell September 30, 1932 in Belton. To the union were born seven children Thomas, Marvin, Mike, Charles, Willella, Sherral and Sarah. Charlcie was a homemaker and worked in home health care in her later working years. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, March 15, 1985; two sons Mike Cockrell in 1970 and Charles Cockrell in 1999; six sisters, Heatty Elms Carroll, Willie Elms McFarland, Grace Elms Gilmer, Rose Elms Sutton, Arlene Elms Sharp and Alma Elms Doss; two brothers Loyd Elms and Thomas Elms.
Survivors include three sons Thomas Cockrell of Copperas Cove, Marvin Cockrell and wife Grace of Brenham and Sherral Cockrell of Walburg; two daughters Willella Boyd of Belton and Sarah Bowlden and husband Fred of Rockwall; two daughters-in-law Peggy Cockrell Jones of Lometa and Carolyn Cockrell Wagner of Ohio; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
