Charilyn E. Dare, 78, of Spirit Lake passed away from cancer on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at her home in Spirit Lake.
Charilyn was born on November 18, 1941 in Spirit Lake to Charles Dewey and Geneva (Wood) Belken. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1960. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Dare on May 5, 1961 in the Spirit Lake United Methodist Church.
She worked for a short time as a Dental Assistant for Dr. Newell. She spent the majority of her time raising her children and caring for the family home. In her free time you could always find Charilyn in the outdoors. She loved to fish, tend to her flowers and garden. She volunteered at the Nature Center where she enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels. She also looked forward to every spring going moral mushroom hunting.
She is survived by her children, Carol Gerken of Apple Valley. MN; Curtis (Sue) Dare of Spirit Lake, IA; DJuana (Brad) Wambold of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren Brent Dare, Savannah Dare, Grant Wambold, Nick (Heather) Gerken, Aaron Hickman, Sarah Wedebrand; great grandchildren Wesley and Harper; sisters Betty Smith and Barb Haagenson; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a grandson Andrew Hickman, brothers Duane Belken and Dale Belken, sisters Darlene Reeves, Sevilla Tvedte.
