Chaplain (CPT.) Billy Shane Stauffer unexpectedly met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 7, 2012 at the age of 46.
Chaplain Stauffer was born May 11, 1966 in Seaford, DE to Leslie and Carolyn Miller Stauffer. Shane grew up in Saraland, Alabama and graduated from Satsuma High School in 1984. He then spent four years in the Army as a pharmacy technician, stationed at Fort Belvoir in Virginia. After that he attended Washington Bible College in Lanham, Maryland, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies. While in college, Shane met Alison Vreeland and they married in 1995. He served as youth pastor in both Virginia and Maryland and later as pastor to college and career students in Texas. In 2001, Shane graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Old Testament Studies. After seminary, Shane served as senior pastor at Virginia Avenue Baptist Church in Hagerstown, Maryland. Finally, in 2006 Shane returned to the Army as a Chaplain. He served at Fort Sill, OK; Grafenwohr, Germany, and spent the last year at San Antonio Medical Center studying for Clinical Pastoral Education. He recently arrived at Fort Bragg to begin his ministry with the 28th CASH. He will be remembered most for his friendly personality, attitude of service, and love for the Lord. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and soldiers.
Chaplain Stauffer’s Awards and decorations include 1 Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Support Medal, Army Service Ribbon and The Overseas Service Ribbon.
Surviving Chaplain Stauffer is his wife, Alison Stauffer of Hope Mills; a son Theron Stauffer of Hope Mills; two daughters, Reagan and Ryann Stauffer of Hope Mills; his Father, Les Stauffer of Ocean Springs, MS; his Mother, Carolyn Stauffer of Milton, FL; and a brother, Sean Stauffer of Milton, FL.
