Cerola H. Nichols, 87, passed away peacefully July 16, 2010 at Spring Creek Manor,  Eagle, Idaho.

Cerola was born October 2, 1922 to William Firth Heslington and Sarah Ellen Pearce Heslington in Adamsville, Utah, into a large family who welcomed her into their home. She was born into a family of educators, and she was taught at a young age the value of books and learning.

Cerola graduated from L.D.S. Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah with her associate degree. Following her graduation she went to work as a secretary for the Union Pacific Railroad and was employed there for two years.

She met Robert E. Nichols when they were students at Milford High School. They were married on December 26, 1944 and were later sealed with their two daughters in the Idaho Falls Temple.

They began their married life with Bob serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Cerola lived with her sister in San Mateo, California so she could see her new husband when they could arrange it. After Bob was discharged from the Navy, they lived in Salt Lake City for several years. An employment transfer in 1954 brought them to Boise, Idaho where they resided for 25 years. Their next move took them to Eagle where they spent the remainder of their years together.

Cerola was an excellent example of a volunteer. She was a dedicated L.D.S. Temple worker and volunteered for many years for both St. Luke’s and St. Alphonsus Medical Center auxiliary organizations. She spent one morning a week at the Eagle Public Library and also helped children with their reading at Eagle Hills Elementary.

She was involved with community support as well. She was an election judge and set up voting booths for local elections. Cerola enjoyed seeing August come each year so she could work in booths at the Western Idaho State Fair.

She loved children of all ages. She enjoyed babies and loved to watch them grow into toddlers, teenagers and saw many of them get married. She was young at heart and her interaction with youth kept her feeling and thinking young!

Her love of reading played a large role in her life. She was a voracious reader and always had a recommendation for a good book – and often had a book to share.

She has resided at Spring Creek Manor for the last two years and has met and made many friends there.

She is survived by her daughters; Shauna (Warren) Jones of Oklahoma City, OK, and Carolynne Nichols of Hillsboro, OR; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents, William and Sarah; her brothers, David, Melburn, and Richard; and sisters, Audrey and Alberta.
