Cecil W. Saunders, age 88, of Alexandria, IN, died, Thursday, November 14, 2013 Cecil was employed by VA Northern Indiana Health Care System as a nurse’s aide.

He had also worked as a painter for Joe Payne Interior Decorating and a Maintenance group leader at Ball State University. Cecil is the son of the late Cecil J. Saunders and the Late Hallie G. (Hall) Saunders. He was born in Henry County, Indiana on March 7, 1925. He graduated from Summitville High School in 1943. He married Pauline I. Bowers on April 29, 1943.

She preceded him in death on September 5, 2011. Cecil served in the US Army during WWII in the 775 Field Artillery Division. He was a member of the 1st group to break the sound barrier with military artillery. He earned 4 Bronze Stars and a Sharp Shooter Metal. Cecilis a former member of the Fairmount Masonic Lodge and the Rigdon Lions Club. He was a member of the Ball State Sympathy Club and enjoyed doing crafts and quilting with Pauline. Cecil is survived by: Five Daughters: Judy (Andy) Baxter, Spring Hill, FL Sharon (Michael) Thompson, Alexandria, IN MarciaGilman, Alexandria, IN Janet Saunders, Alexandria, IN Jennifer Johnson, Anderson, IN One Son: David Cecil Saunders, Cornelius, NC One Sister: Nancy (Roland) Webb, Anderson, IN 15 Grand Children. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters; Edward, Charles Henry, John, Rebecca, and Sara Ellen Allen, and a grandson Troy Collins and son-in-law Greg Gilman
