Cecil Louie Parks known as “Bud” was born on July 24, 1925 to Johnny and Gracie Parks in a small country town , Bunker Hill, Missouri. He went to school in a one room school house up until he was in the fourth grade.
At the age of ten, he quit school and went to live with his uncle. He started his first job working as a cook while his uncle and cousins were logging. When he was old enough Cecil joined his family and started logging too.
He lived many places in Iowa and Missouri. There wasn’t a job he could not do. Cecil was a logger, drove an in-loader for a sandpit and a mechanic, which he enjoyed working on cars.
In May 26, 2005, he was united in marriage to Betty Jones. When they brought together two families making them one.
Cecil loved working in his garden, fishing, hunting. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family.
Cecil’s past time entertainment was playing the spoons and the tambourine for his family and friends. They would travel all over Iowa and Missouri playing at the jams while Betty and family would dance the night away.
Cecil passed away Monday, December 16, 2019 with family by his side.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Gracie Parks, several siblings, step-sons, Ronnie Wright and Larry Carter, son-in-law, Joe Eckstein. He is survived by his wife Betty, his children, Nyoka Parks of Murray, IA, Debra Eckstein of Des Moines, IA, John “Smokie” Parks of Salem MO, and Luke Parks of Murray, IA, his step-children, Melvin Jones of Indianola, IA, Jimmy Carter of Arkansas, Rick Wright of St. Louis, MO, Diana Thurman of Eagleville, MO, Judy Carter of Lamoni, IA, Patty Dothager of Illinois, and twenty-nine grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, twenty great- great grandchildren.
