Cecelia S. O’Neil, 89,of Norwich, Conn., passed away peacefully Friday, Oct.11, 2013. She became the beloved wife and “Precious Polish Princess” of Charles J. O’Neil on June 18, 1949. They were married for 61 years until his passing in 2010.
Born in Norwich on April 15, 1924, the daughter of the late Sophia (Gwudz) and John Banas.
She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Charles and Celeste O’Neil of Milford, PA, Frederick and Susan O’Neil of Norwich; and her daughter and spouse, Susan and Steve Chapados of Ledyard; and eight grandchildren, Ben O’Neil and wife Jordan, Chuck O’Neil and wife Noa, Beth O’Neil and husband Christian, Sarah O’Neil, AnneFay Sullivan and husband Patrick, Kimberly Peterson and husband Brett, Audrey O’Neil, Cheryl Chapados; and two great grandchildren, Lily Red and Colby Peterson. She is also survived by her sister Theresa Ryan of Florida. She was predeceased by her son Thomas Patrick O’Neil.
Cecelia was a graduate of St. Joseph School and Norwich Free Academy, and later worked in St. Peter and Paul rectory for many years. She also spent time volunteering as a teacher for the CCD program.
Cecelia will forever be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother. Always eager to host relatives and friends, she was the life of the party. Her happiness and smile were contagious and her bright personality lit up the room.
