Catherine Theresa Venezia Schulkens, housewife, died on October 5, 2016 at the age of 96. Mrs. Schulkens was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and lived in Hammond for the last few years. She was educated in the Catholic schools of New Orleans. She was a Tap Dance Instructor and a member of the People’s Program. She was President and Officer of Sultana’s of Alhambra No. 29, Past President of Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxilary No. 2925, Past President and organizer of Prano Auxilary, member of St. Joseph’s Guild, St. James Major Sodality, AARP 1515, and a former member of the Krewe of Who Social Club. She was the beloved wife of the late John Henry Schulkens, Jr., mother of Cynthia Schulkens Styron (Richard), grandmother of John R. Styron, step grandmother of Ryan L. Styron, sister of Joan Crespo, great grandmother of Hayden, Riley, Rachael, Stephanie, and Jackson, and beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lena Blum, Terry Sheldon, Juanita Cuccia, Joseph, Frank, Anthony Carlo, and Louis Venezia.
