Mrs. Catherine Bessie Landrum, age 98, of Lanett, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the EAMC Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley.
She was born May 23rd, 1918, the fourth of seven children of the late Walter and Agatha Slagle.
Catherine was born in Randolph County, Alabama and lived through the Great Depression, as the family scratched out a life on the farm. As a young girl, she saw the power of nature first-hand. She always had a peak interest in storms, because a relative and livestock were transported miles in a tornado that passed through the county when she was a young girl.
She faithfully worked with West Point Pepperell for 45 years before retiring.
Her life as a Christian was centered in the community of believers at Lanett First Baptist Church. Her faith and her opinions were always unequivocally clear to family, friends and acquaintances. Her love for the family was always the center of conversation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harvey Landrum; her siblings, Guy Slagle, Bernice Slagle, Wendell Slagle, Doris Slagle, and Bill Slagle.
She is survived by her brother Charles Slagle; her son, Mike and his wife Linda, of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Lauren Landrum Fleming (Alex), Taylor Landrum (Shelby) and Carley Landrum; and one great granddaughter, Paxton Fleming.
