Catherine Marie Huys, 84, of Osceola, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday (May 20, 2008) in Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born March 8, 1924, in Miller, S.D., to Vern and Amanda (Stull) Lewallen. On Feb. 14, 1944, she married Clifford Snyder Jr. in Goshen. He died July 4, 1944, on Normandy Beach during World War II. She married George J. Huys on June 12, 1948, in Goshen. He died Oct. 9, 1998.

Mrs. Huys is survived by two sons, Geoffrey J. Huys of Wausau, Wis., and Michael W. Huys of Goshen; two granddaughters; two brothers, Richard Lewallen of Wessington, S.D., and Howard Lewallen of Wild Rose, Wis.; and a sister, Lillian McGibbney of Sebring, Fla.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Forrest, Vern, Oliver and Earl Lewallen; and five sisters, Violet King, Mildred Rassi, Margaret Barlament, Gladys Raines and an infant, Beatrice.

Mrs. Huys was a beautician and along with her husband, co-owned Huys’ Grocery and Market in Osceola for many years.

She was a graduate of Tobias Beauty College, South Bend, and a member of Women of the Moose, Elkhart.

She enjoyed reading, cooking and watching classic television shows such as “Leave it to Beaver,” and “Father Knows Best.”
