Catherine Ann Rich (known to her friends at Cat) passed away peacefully on December 12, 2017 at the age of 81 after a long illness. Catherine is preceded in death by her loving husband; Samuel Rich. Also preceded in death by her parents George Clendenin and her mother Violet Scrilda Clendenin as well as her first brother, Dempsey. She is survived by her daughter Jeanni Butler (husband Barry), step son David Rich; three brothers, Allen (Ann), Harvey (Wanda), Wayne and sister Marilyn (Sal). The light of her life was her only grandson Justin Perry (Christa) who is currently residing in Houston, TX.
Catherine was born on June 22, 1934 in Tad, West Virginia. She graduated from Dupont High School in Belle, WV and went to work for the Diamond Dept. store as a buyer. She lived for most of her adult life before retiring in New Jersey where she was an accountant and met her husband Sam whom she married in 1985.
They retired in the early 90’s and traveled between a home they purchased in the beautiful Greenbrier Valley of West Virginia where they spent much of their time enjoying the outdoors and their many friends and their daughter’s home in Indian Trail, NC where they spent the colder months of the year enjoying their daughter and her family. Catherine also enjoyed participating in the Air Force Association of Kanawha County as Sam was a retired Lieutenant Colonel.
Catherine was an avid cat lover and they traveled with their beloved Cat, L.B. Boots who loved to ride shotgun on their many trips to North Carolina. She was proudest of her grandson Justin and loved to celebrate his every accomplishment including being there to cheer him on with many happy tears as he graduated UNCC Charlotte in 2009.
