CATHERINE ELIZABETH BECKETT, 89, a longtime resident of Deming passed away Friday January 17, 2014 in Deming.
Catherine was born May 13, 1924 in Mescalero, New Mexico to Dewey and Louise (Baird) Wooten. She married William T. Beckett on December 6, 1940 and will be laid to rest in the same dress she wore on the beautiful day in 1940. Catherine came to Deming in 1945 from El Paso, Texas and was a secretary with the Deming Public Schools until her retirement in 1983. She was an active member of the Order of Easter Star for 71 years and in Deming was a member of Ruth Chapter 6, O.E.S., the Daughters of the Nile, and was Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls.
She is survived by her sons, William T. Beckett and Michiel Dean Beckett (Joyce Ann) of Alamogordo, NM; daughters, Annie Louise Horton and Gari Beth Pruiett of Tularosa, NM; brothers, Benjamin Franklin Wooten of Las Cruces, Stewart Wayne Wooten (Sis) of Houston, TX; sisters, Patsy Josephine McMurry of Alamogordo, Frances Jean Kelt (John) of Roswell; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren, whom she was very proud of.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband William T. Beckett Sr., her daughter, Becky Eileen Ortiz and a brother, Richard Wooten, son in law, Lloyd Horton, daughters in law, Doris Jean Beckett and Sharyl Lynn Beckett, and grandchildren, Heather Rivera and Cody Horton.
