Catherine Anne “Cissy” Hass, 56, passed from this realm to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, June 3, 2017, after a five-year fight against pancreatic cancer. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church of Newnan. The family will receive guests after the service in the Parish Hall. Born in Athens, Georgia, on August 13, 1960, to Howell Jackson “Jack” and Bette Anne Epps, she attended Douglas County High School in Douglasville, Georgia, and West Georgia College and Georgia State University.
She married Brian Lee Hass on November 9, 1985, in Douglasville after the couple met and fell in love on a blind date 14 months earlier. She was a 20-year member of First United Methodist Church of Newnan, serving as a preschool teacher and in the church’s cancer ministry. First and foremost a beloved daughter, wife and mother, she was creative in all aspects of life. She was a constant presence at her children’s schools, sports teams sponsor and former President of the PTO for Northside Elementary. For several years, she and her mother owned and operated “Seams Unique” a home décor company that made draperies, bedspreads, pillows and accessories, personalized to customer specifications.
After her cancer diagnosis and subsequent long-term treatment at Newnan’s Cancer Treatment Center of America (CTCA), she was named to the Center’s Patient Advisory Council, traveling to hospitals in Tulsa, Chicago, Phoenix and Philadelphia to help improve the patient experience. She served as a Patient Advocate at the Newnan center and addressed the Board on several occasions. Sharing her story of faith and hope and listening to the experiences of others earned her the nickname “Dr. Encouragement.” Helping others helped her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Howell Jackson “Jack” Epps, and sister, Bettina. Left to cherish her memory are mother, Bette Palmer Epps of Newnan; husband, Brian Lee Hass of Newnan; sons, Conrad Palmer Hass of Newnan and Kelvin Fowler Hass of Redondo Beach, California; daughter, KenleeAnne Vermelle “Annie” Hass of Newnan; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Stephanie Epps, Sarah and Stephen Epps of Douglasville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
