Casimir J. “Casey” Jedd, 92, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Wednesday March 5, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.
Casey was born to Joseph and Caroline in Chicago, IL on New Year’s Eve in 1921. What a bundle!
He was educated in Chicago Catholic Schools and graduated in 1941- enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Force immediately after high school. Casey served with the military in Utah, Alabama, Texas, and Key West, FL, before being stationed overseas. In 1945, he was destined for service in the China, Burma, India Theatre of War. The commanding officer on the troop ship ordered the captain to return to the United States, sparing Casey from the Japanese conflict.
When Casey returned to the United States, plans were made to marry his sweetheart, Phyllis. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army Air Force, they were married on September 22, 1945. They celebrated 60 years of marriage and Phyllis passed away in 2005. Phyllis and Casey had two children, Carolyn, who survives and Thomas who died as an infant.
Casey is also survived by one sister-in-law, Irene Jedd of Westchester, IL; nephews, Steven of Westchester, IL; Michael of Colorado; and Paul of New Hampshire; James of Mishawaka; Thomas of Elkhart; nieces, Judith of Beaverton, OR; Rebecca and Francine, both of San Francisco, CA; Cynthia of Belgium; and Chris White. Also surviving are special friends, Mary and Larry Cabanaw of Granger, IN; Bryan and Maria Miller and their sons, Gianfranco and Alessandro of South Bend, IN; and two grand dogs, Nick and Peggy Sue.
Casey was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers and sisters.
Casey was employed by the Bendix Corporation in the Aerospace Department for 32 years and was very proud of his work there, taking family and friends to open houses whenever he could. He retired in 1982.
Casey was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame for 30 years, where he belonged to the senior group. He was also involved in various projects at the church which highlighted his talents in woodworking. He was a member of American Legion Post #357, Bendix Retirees Club. Casey was active in Senior Olympics- table tennis, where he won gold medals. Casey loved all Notre Dame Sports, tailgating, and was always involved in visiting with fans from all over the country.
