Ms. Carrie Ann Edwards entered this life on January 24, 1936, born to Flossie Sims and James Edwards in the city of Woodruff in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. A country girl at heart, her family moved to Washington, D.C. when she was 3 and it was there that she became a true Washingtonian. Much of her life was spent in Southeast D.C., where she was a single mom to her daughter, Patricia Middleton and helped rear her grandchildren, Abdul Kareem (Sean), Kenice, and Karrie, who was affectionately named after her grandmother. In her later years, she settled at home in the Carver Apartments on East Capitol Street, Northeast, D.C. for more than 15 years. She was affectionately known as “Mother Edwards,” mother to many in her church and neighborhood communities across the D.C. area.

She loved to fish, loved to laugh, and shared what she had with friends, family, and others in need. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and lived a precious and happy life. As God was preparing a mighty fine place for her in His Kingdom, she mentioned, “going home to be with her King” as her final destination.

Ms. Carrie’s life and beautiful memories are survived by her daughter, Patricia Middleton, grand children Abdul Kareem Muhammad (Sean Edwards), Kenice Middleton, and Karrie Boone, son-in-law Dion Boone, daughter-in-law Latisha Muhammad, great grandchildren Daniel Wright, Cydney Payden-Diggs, Sadae Boone, Shayla Boone, Nadia Baxter, and Amir Muhammad nephews Dereik, Illya, and Yates Edwards, niece Denise Edwards, adopted nieces Bertha Edwards and Linda Croom, spiritual daughter Michelle Fletcher (deceased), loving ties to the Middleton, Murdock, and Wright/Jones families and a host of friends that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her late husband Leroy Craig (1993), her brothers, Jesse (1998) and Yates Edwards (1968).
