Carolyn Redfern Alderman, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015.

She was born in Tallahassee, Florida, the daughter of Dess Clinton Redfern and Ruby Nichols Redfern. She was a member of East Hill Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida. Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Tallahassee and attended Sealey Elementary School and Leon High School. She graduated from Leon High School in 1952. Carolyn earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 1956, and a Master’s Degree in 1958 in Early Childhood Education from Florida State University. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority while attending FSU.

She was a lifelong Seminole fan. She taught elementary school in Leon County for 40 years. She taught at Ruediger Elementary and Timberlane/Gilchrist Elementary Schools for her entire career. She loved teaching, and always enjoyed the chance meetings with former students. She was always involved in musical endeavors and loved playing the piano and singing in the Melodears while attending Leon High. During her time at Florida State University, she was a member of the University Singers and toured the State of Florida. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Nan Gray (Randy), a son, Dess Alderman, and a precious granddaughter, Carolynne Gray. She is also survived by her devoted friend and caregiver of 52 years, Jeraldine Gilmore.
