Carolyn Moreland Lawhorn, 65, of Greenwood St., New Haven passed away May 23, 2013 in the SmilowCancerHospital at Yale New Haven. She was the widow of Charles Lawhorn. Mrs. Lawhorn was born in Atlanta, GA. on Oct. 8, 1947, daughter of the late Calvin and Gladys Sweeney Moreland. She served as Program Director for Project MORE. Prior to her illness, she was the residential program director of the Virginia Wells House on George St. in New Haven. Prior to that, she was the residential director for the former St.FrancisHome for Children on Prospect St. She also worked for the New Haven Dept. of Education in their Day Care Program. She is survived by two sons, Derrick (Barbara) Lawhorn and Jamel (Lashawn) Lawhorn, both of New Haven; one brother, Morris (June) Moreland of New Haven; five grandchildren, Tyrell, Brittany, Brandon, Breiana and Jamel Jr. as well as nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
