Carolyn Joyce Peters, the daughter of Garrett Gerdes and Henrietta Jasper (Dornath) Peters,
was born on a farm near Manson, Iowa in Pocahontas County on April 1, 1934. She was
baptized and confirmed in St.
country school and graduated from Manson High School in 1952. She was employed by Hogans
Sporting and Coffee Shop while attending Tobin Business College in Fort Dodge and Leighton
Supply Co. until 1957. She was united in marriage to Eugene W. Cirks on February 23, 1957,
and the couple made their home at Minneapolis where her husband was attending school. She
was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Co until the couple returned to Fort Dodge
where they started their family. Carolyn worked part-time for Leighton Supply Co. and for
Globe Union in 1964 & 1965. On February 1, 1968, Carolyn became employed at First American
Bank in Fort Dodge where she remained for 32 years until her retirement on March 31, 2000.
Carolyn was a member of St.
Committee, taught Sunday School, and served on the call committee. She was the
Congregational Coordinator for Thrivent Financial Group and was a board member of the Iowa
Head Injury Support Group. She served as Den Mother for the Boy Scouts and assistant leader
for Camp Fire Girls. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Post 2349, and served on the
Board at Gas & Electric Credit Union in Fort Dodge.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Duane (Barbara) Cirks of Northridge, CA, Sandra (Kevin)
McCabe of Manson, and Karen Cirks of Fort Dodge; granddaughters, Kelly Will, Kimberly Pfantz,
Brittany Theiss, Courtney Cirks, and Melissa Brown; great grandchildren, Carter, Everett,
Maelyn, Henry, and Kade; and her brother, Corliss Peters. She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Eugene; sisters, Marliss Nissen and Elaine Lawrence; and brother, Donny Peters.
