Carolyn Watford, age 69, died on January 9, 2022. She was born in Columbus, GA when her father was serving in the Air Force during the Korean War, but lived most of her life in Newnan, GA. She attended St. Gertrude’s School in Washington, D.C. for 9 years where she was taught academics by Benedictine nuns as well as cooking, cleaning, sewing, singing, swimming, and typing. She completed her G.E.D. at the Newnan Adult Learning Center and then attended Carroll Tech. For over 30 years, Carolyn worked in Newnan in several positions–as a nursing assistant at Newnan Hospital, as a receptionist at her father’s dental office, as a hostess and server at Something Special, and as a clerk at the Salvation Army Service Center.

Carolyn was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and beautiful smile. She was also a devoted member of the Central Baptist Church where she was a choir member for many years. After she retired, she channeled her energy into her volunteer work at the Humane Society where she helped to socialize rescue cats and held the cats for their website photos, at two assisted living homes where she called bingo every week, and at the Central Baptist Church where she prepared and delivered meals for the elderly as part of the Feeding our Friends program.

While she was working at Newnan Hospital, she met the love of her life, Mike Watford, to whom she was married for 38 years. They enjoyed the simple pleasures of life-doing volunteer work together, spending time with family, and occasionally going on weekend vacations. Carolyn also had her own personal interests that she enthusiastically embraced including reading, her daily exercise routine on her elliptical and treadmill, and taking care of her beloved cats.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Watford of Newnan, her sister, Sara Barron (Chet Hurwitz) of Atlanta; her niece, Anna Cardamon (Mike) of Marietta; her nephew, David Hurwitz of Atlanta; her brother-in-law, George Rosenzweig of Newnan; her nephew, Gray George of Chandler, AZ; and her niece, Guion Rosenzweig (Nick Hernandez) of Tacoma, WA; her maternal aunt, Orlean Castronis of Athens; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby Watford (Carolyn) of Marietta, as well as numerous cousins and Watford nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Lavinia and Charles Barron; her sister, Vinnie Rosenzweig; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Frankie Watford.
