Caroline Bormann, age 97 of Bode, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at her home.  Caroline Anne Bormann, daughter of Charles and Anna (Laubenthal) Kollasch was born August 23, 1921 at the family home near Whittemore, Iowa. She attended Presentation Academy and received her High School diploma in 1939. After graduation she worked at Cavenaugh’s Drug Store in Whittemore, the ASC office and the Credit Bureau in Algona and Republic Drugstore in Denver. She married Clarence Bormann on November 20, 1945 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Whittemore, Iowa and they lived on the same farm in the St. Joe area until 2014.

After the death of her husband, Clarence, she moved to Van Buren Terrace in Algona. Caroline was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a Charter Member of the St. Joe Catholic Daughters of America serving as Regent from 1973-1975. She served as the CCW Parish Representative and also the Rural Life Committee head for the Deanery. She enjoyed parish activities, playing cards and gardening. She was a Charter member of the Palo Alto County Piecemakers Quilt Guild and enjoyed making quilts for her home, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Caroline enjoyed farm life and believed we have a responsibility to pass our land on to the next generation better than we found it.

In November 2001 Caroline and Clarence were presented with the St. Isidore and Maria Award by the National Catholic Rural Life Conference. The award is given in recognition of a rural couple that exemplify fidelity to a dream, a vocation, and a love which combines family, integrity, stewardship, and religion.

Caroline is survived by her seven children: Phil and Rosemary Bormann of Bode, Corinne and Brian D’Silva of Reston, VA, Connie and Jerry Bernardy of Brooklyn Park, MN, Merrill and Brenda Bormann of Whittemore, Ellen and Chris Belle of Wheat Ridge, CO, Karl and Susie Bormann of Red Oak, IA and Marita Sanders of Eagan, MN. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren who she adored. She is also survived by her four sisters, Sr. Anne Marie Kollasch PBVM, Dubuque, Dee Kollasch, Algona, Joanne Kollasch OSB, Madison WI and Irene Bormann of St. Joe. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Louis Kollasch, Arnold Kollasch Eugene Kollasch SJ, and Clem Kollasch and brother-in-laws, Harold Bormann, Irvin Bormann and Maurice Laubenthal and sister in laws Helen Gales, Mary Helen Kollasch and Lorene Kollasch.
