Carole Emilie Rhinevault (née King) passed away after a short illness on March 29, 2017 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, MD, at the age of 71. She was born on April 9th, 1946 in Endicott, NY, to the late Mr. Paul and Mrs. Margaret King.
During her childhood and adolescence, Carole, along with her three brothers David, Dwayne, and Rick, attended school in Vestal, New York, and as the only daughter, Carole was often included in her mother’s fashion-related career. She was later married to Blaine Rhinevault, and they were blessed to have two wonderful sons, Todd and Brett. Carole subsequently started her career at Star’s Department store in Vestal, and then moved on to become the Personnel Manager at Montgomery Wards. Following a promotion, she moved with her children to Maryland. After 17 years, she transitioned from Montgomery Wards to begin what would be an adventure she loved at Trinity Washington University, until her retirement only a few short months before her passing. Carole’s feelings towards Trinity were more than just job-related; she cherished, respected, and endlessly loved the University as well as the many close friends and acquaintances she made there over the years. An extremely active member of the university, she spearheaded many major events and was in charge of many different groups on campus during her career, additionally receiving the title of Vice President of Human Resources. Trinity will forever be respected and remembered in the hearts of her family members.
Carole is survived by her children, Todd Rhinevault and his wife Kimberly of Ellicott City, MD, and Brett Rhinevault and his wife Addie of Columbia, MD; siblings, David King and wife Joan, Dwayne King, Rick King and wife Debbie. Her father, Paul King, precedes her in death, as well as her mother Margaret King and sister-in-law Carolyn King. She was very proud of her four grandchildren, Sydney, Abigail, Brittany and Garrett Rhinevault, and they all adored their “Gramma”.
Carole was loved and respected by all her extended family and friends, and even people she happened to meet in passing. From a young age, she was bright, thoughtful, charismatic, and loved being around people. She had a very special relationship with her father in particular, and spent as much time with him as possible before his passing. With her unique, innate ability to connect to others, Carole made anyone she interacted with feel like a friend, regardless if it was a lifetime acquaintance or a cashier at the grocery store. Among her favorite activities, she looked forward to her yearly trek to Lido Key, FL with her children and their families, where she loved to lay in the sun from dawn until dusk and dine at some of her all-time favorite restaurants. Carole acted as a mentor not only her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, but also to anyone who merely showed a desire to better him or herself. Whether it was school-related papers or advice about life, she was always there to lend an immense helping hand. Family and friends were truly her passion and her delight.
Carole was also passionate about her football team, the New York Giants. If you needed her on a Sunday during football season, you could find her at her son’s house watching the game with her family surrounding her, decked all-out in her classic Giants fan wear down to her Giants earrings.
In the later years of her life, Carole experienced numerous health ailments, which found her in and out of hospitalized care. Her children, grandchildren, friends and colleagues have remained by her side through it all.
Carole truly had a unique light within her that beamed in every direction and impacted each and every person she encountered throughout her life. When speaking to her, one felt incredibly special. She had the inherent ability to make anyone feel as though they were extremely important to her, even if she barely knew them. Carole touched so many people with this quality, and never showed a hint of negativity – regardless of the nature of the situation.
