Carole C. Nicholas, 83, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2022, at Skyline Ridge Nursing Home in Canon City. Carole was born in Canon City to Dwight and Viola Nicholas as the youngest of 3 sisters.

Her father worked on ranches in Gunnison County and upon graduating from Gunnison High School, she moved to California. Carole had a successful career as a bookkeeper and office manager working in various industries. She was very dedicated to her employers and moved twice with one company to different parts of California. In the latter part of her career, she worked for Central Valley Processors (almond growers) and assisted with managing several of the owner’s businesses. Carole was a generous and friendly person and became longtime friends with several of her coworkers and was a mentor to some of their children.

She initially retired in Merced, California, and spent time with friends and tending to her house and yard. Her father lived with her during his final years.

Carole is survived by her sister, Shirley Stratman of Tucson, AZ; cousins, Cheryl Moore and two daughters of Canon City, CO and Richard (Faith) Hix and two daughters of Canon City, CO; Jim Trott of Sante Fe, NM; nieces, Barbara (Stratman) Schingle, Nancy Stratman, Susan Stratman, and Christa (Gibbons) Naranja; nephews, John Stratman and Scott Gibbons; as well as many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews; and close friend, Darlene Vernon of California.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Geraldine Gibbons.
