Carole Sue Smauder Kelly
West Sand Lake Carole Sue Smauder Kelly, of Orchard Lane West Sand Lake, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004, at her residence after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Born in Troy, she was the daughter of Marion Bame Smauder of West Sand Lake and the late William Smauder and loving wife of the late James J. Kelly.
She had resided in Poestenkill for 30 years, returning to West Sand Lake the past several years and was a graduate of Averill Park High School and the State University of New York at Cobleskill.
Carole Sue was employed as a receptionist and clerk at the New York State Health Department in Albany for 18 years retiring in 2002.
Carol Sue was a very active member of Salem United Methodist Church in West Sand Lake. As a young woman, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. In later years, she served on the Board of Trustees, was President of the 3 M’s Club and United Methodist Women. She was very active in the ALS fund raising events and participated in the current Jerry Lewis Telethon.
Carole Sue loved life and loved the Lord dearly. Summers found her at the family cottage on Crooked Lake. She was an avid swimmer.
Survivors in addition to her mother include three sons, Scott Northrup of West Sand Lake, Tim Kelly of West Sand Lake, and Brian Kelly (Rebekka) of Poestenkill; two grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Jamie Kelly and Tim Kelly Jr. both of Poestenkill. She leaves behind many good friends, especially her cousin, Donna Fitzpatrick of Averill Park and close friend, Jackye Rider of Castleton. Carole Sue was very appreciative of the care and concern of Drs. Cooper and Parrotta.
