Carol Ruth Holzberg, 68, of Middletown, passed away on Monday, April 15th surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Professor Jules D. Holzberg and the late Betty (Abrams) Holzberg. Carol graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in 1962 and Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL in 1966. Upon graduation, she moved to Boston where she resided for over thirty-five years. Carol worked as an administrative assistant at Harvard University and Tufts University Medical Schools retiring in 2004. Following her retirement she moved back to Middletown. Carol loved to travel and loved animals making her the favorite dog and cat sitter for her beloved Fiona, George and Itty Bitty. She is survived by two brothers, Mark Holzberg and his wife, Stasia of Oak Park, IL and Robert Holzberg and his wife, Maria of Middletown; her niece, Jenna Holzberg and her nephew, Joel Holzberg. Carol and her family thank her special angels, Dr. Michael Good, the wonderful staff of the Weiss Hospice Center and her devoted care giver Karolina Wierzbicka who provided her with great comfort and support. Carol was so appreciative of all who cared for her. She had, as her surgeon wrote in his discharge note, “an attitude of gratitude”, always thanking those who supported and cared for her and never once complaining about her illness.
