Carol L. Stokes, 82

Heaven gained a very special soul when Carol L. Stokes went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 4, 2021. She was born May 22, 1939, in Douglas, Georgia. She has been a resident of Okeechobee for the past 56 years. Carol was a member of First Baptist Church of Okeechobee, where she also touched the lives of many local children as a preschool teacher for many years. Carol loved her family more than anything and would choose to spend time with them over anything else. She also enjoyed tending to her vast array of flowers, she could grow anything but was most proud of her roses. She loved shopping, traveling all over our beautiful country, listening to music- especially Loretta Lynn, and cooking for her family- she was most known for her homemade biscuits and sweet tea. She was a true Southern lady through and through.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life and her true soulmate, her husband Delbert Stokes; her loving son David Stokes, who walked through Heaven’s gate alongside her; her beloved parents Clayton and Rudene Flint; sisters, Jean McManus, Hazel Daughtrey, and brother Clayton E. Flint Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Stokes Somerset and her husband Matt of New Smyrna Beach, FL; sons Dwayne Stokes and his wife Vicki, Darryl Stokes and his wife Barbara, Gary Stokes all of Okeechobee, FL; grandchildren, Jennifer Howell, Alisha Hodges, Jennifer Porter, Glenn Stokes, Chad Stokes, Dustin Stokes, Kayla Stokes, Dyllan Stokes, Gary Stokes Jr; great-grandchildren, Kendyl, Colton, Brynne, Kenley, Georgia Ann; sisters Diane Tydings of Kissimmee, FL, Marion Morris, Brenda Glover both of St. Cloud, FL; many other family members and countless friends.
