Carol L. Senger, age 88, of Cassopolis, left this physical world peacefully in her sleep to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the love of her life, Fred, on November 3, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in Clarksville, Tennessee.Carol was one of the most loving people this world has ever known and gladly accepted many people into her heart and treated them all as her children and especially her friends.
Born in Freesoil, Michigan on April 7, 1930, the youngest child of Otto Henry and Clara Marie (Woebbeking) Battige, Carol was a small but mighty fighter throughout her life. With the early death of her mother, she was forced to learn to cope with the trials of this life using her own ingenuity and wits.On June 24, 1950. Carol was united in marriage to the love of her life, Frederick WilliamSenger, Jr. in Grant Township, Mason County, Michigan and they began an adventure through this life that lasted sixty-one wonderful years until his death on September 6, 2011.
She leaves a daughter, Christi Huss of Clarksville, Tennessee; two sons, Rick (Bev) Senger of Niles, Michigan and Todd (Colleen) Senger of Springfield, Tennessee.Carol also leaves behind grandchildren, Carrie (Shaun) Bridges, Lisa (Jim) Schamburg, Michael (Jen) Senger, Bethany (Cary) Gillam and Brandi Senger. She also leaves behind great grandchildren, Caitlynn and Chelsea Schamburg, Dustin and James Wallace, Mary Huss, Maizen, Lenox and Isley Gillam. She also leaves behind sister in laws, Jairus (Paul) Shereda and Evelyn and Geraldine Battige.Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Clara Battige; her husband, Fred Senger; one grandson, Rob Huss; twin great grandsons, Hogan and Kegon Senger; son in law, Robert “Bob” Huss; two brothers, Wilfred Battige and Melvin Battige.Carol was an organization freak and it manifested itself with her professions and hobbies.
She was a hairdresser in her early life and moved into secretary and administrative work in her later years. She was the Deputy Clerk of Cass County and then the Executive Secretary to the Superintendent of Cassopolis Schools. Upon retirement she continued her affiliation with education by serving in many roles with MARSP (Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel). She also loved acting and it led her to be one of the founding members of the Barn Swallow Theater group and helped lead that organization as well as acting in numerous plays for decades. Other than family, her love and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ made her a tireless servant for him at the Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Cassopolis, Michigan. She was a Sunday school Teacher and officer in the Ladies Circle at the church and her im on the congregation there will never be forgotten.
She also served the church through the LWML (Lutheran Womens Missionary League) where she held various local and statewide offices in her life. Carol was a mother to all, and as Chris, Rick and Todd grew up, numerous other children in the community took up residence in her front room on game days and other times and she cheerfully loved and fed them all. In fact, some of the family friends referred to their house as the “left over” house, because she could always find something in the refrigerator for all to eat.
