Carol Krenz Gyllenspetz, 73, of Boerne, Texas left this world peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. She was an artistic soul with a passion for education, gardening, and the ones she loved.

Carol was born on December 9, 1947 to Earl W. Krenz and Juanita “Bo” Krenz in Alton, Illinois. As a girl, she lived in Illinois, North Dakota, Indiana and then Idaho where she graduated from school in 1966 excelling in debate. Carol continued her education as opportunity allowed,  starting with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science – Summa Cum Laude from the University of The Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas and finally culminating with a Master of Science in Environmental Science with a focus in environmental planning, management and analysis. She was a member of the American Mensa as well as the American Association for the Advancement of Science. With her passion for science and conservation she worked in many fields where she could create the most good like The Water Systems Taskforce, as a Subject Matter Expert for many companies allowing her to work at Brooks Air Force Base and on important projects like The Environmental Resources Program Information Management System Project. She also received her AF-EMIS (Air Force Environmental Management Information System) Hazardous Waste and Environmental Reporting certificate to help prevent pollution with a focus on compliance. Her interests took a turn towards computers later in life and in true Carol fashion she ensured she educated herself to the fullest extent. Using her Science background and her knowledge of relational database management systems for modeling, definition and control allowed her a vast array of work opportunities and she took full advantage. She enjoyed some time helping with water conservation, volunteering at the Witte Museum, Texas Parks and Wildlife and so many more.

Carol, a true hippie, loved to travel and in such followed the hippie movement to California where she met and married her first husband David Dorman. With the birth of her first child, Philip, they decided that California was not where they wanted to raise a family and although their carnival business took them all over the country for work, Texas soon became home. With the birth of her second son, Matthew, she was spending her days mothering, gardening and of course working on her education. She used her artistic ability to bake beautiful clay art, paint signs for the business and continually have the best looking lawn on the block. As the boys grew and married Carol took some much deserved time to finish her Education.

She later met and married her soul mate Tommy Gyllenspetz and her life was full of new adventures. Tommy and Carol sped across Texas and other states on what she would say was the back of a very fast motorcycle. Tommy’s passion for high performance sport motorcycles fast became hers and they enjoyed their time together exploring the USA. Her love of history and her own heritage led them on a trip to Europe where she delved into Tommy’s Swedish ancestry.

She shared her thirst for reading with her whole family sharing book suggestions and even registering her kids and grandkids for their first books and magazine subscriptions. Her passion for gardening is still very much seen throughout her property and her green thumb was apparent. She brought her creative side to everything she touched, her home, her garden and her love was uniquely warmed by her originality. Prisms and rocks adorned the plants whilst gardening books, historical novels sat next to her finance and Wall Street books, as you can tell her interests were vast. Her ability to make you feel like you were the only one in the room was truly surpassed by no other and a feeling of importance that only she could give you. She would discuss any topic at length only to return days or weeks later having done her research to better educate herself and you on the subject matter, her hunger for knowledge was best displayed when watching Jeopardy as the correct response flew off the tongue.

Carol is survived by her two sons, Philip (Chrissy) Dorman of Corpus Christi, Texas and Matthew (Julie) Dorman of Sebastian, Texas; her beloved grandchildren, Cody, Tanner, Kayla, Colton, Courtney, and David; her sister, Connie (Dave) Eldredge; her brother, Robert (Kathleen) Krenz; her nephew, Michael; her nieces, Sonja and Alina; as well as her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her soul mate, Tommy Gyllenspetz; her loving parents, Earl and Bo Krenz; her brother, James Krenz; and her first husband and father of her children, David Dorman.

In her honor, the family asks that we all sharpen our critical thinking skills.
