Carol Joyce Jennings, born December 16, 1933, passed peacefully into the arms of God on Saturday, August 24, 2013, surrounded by her family.

Carol was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived most of her life in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She and her husband of 58 years, Douglas Harry Jennings, Sr., moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2005.

In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by a son, Douglas Harry Jennings, Jr. (with wife Debbie), and a daughter, Carolyn Jennings Hawthorne (with husband Richard), three granddaughters, Stephanie, Sally, and Vanessa Jennings, and a sister, Susan Blexrud.

Dearly loved by her family and friends, Carol was a talented water colorist. She was a designer for Gibson Greeting Cards, and won awards for her beautiful paintings, which frequently featured Florida’s flora and fauna. She was generous with her time and affection, volunteering through her affiliation with Eastern Star and The Camelettes in Fort Lauderdale, as well as with Zonta International, where she served as president of the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter. She was an amazing mime, as evidenced by her impersonations of singers Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, and Peggy Lee. Donning colorful costumes and wigs, and always to benefit a charity, Carol could transport her audience to Radio City Music Hall or the Ed Sullivan Show.

With mercy for all creatures great and small, Carol’s tender heart was appreciated by everything and everyone she touched, from stray dogs that would turn up at her door to her many collaborators in work and life. She will be sorely missed for her generous spirit, her warm sense of humor, her impeccable taste, and her admirable attention to detail.
