Carol Irene Heiskari, 77, passed away in her Boise home Saturday evening, August 15, 2015. After a short time on hospice, Carol succumbed to complications from kidney failure. She was born the fourth of seven children on December 14, 1937, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ralph Cleverly Barnes and Pearl Lucille Winans. Carol graduated from Bonneville High School in 1955 and went on to nurses training, studying at Ricks College and the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls. After completing nurses training she attended the University of Utah to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. After graduation Carol worked for the Public Health Department in Lewiston, Idaho. While there she was assigned to work on the Lapwai Indian Reservation as part of her area. Carol was then recruited by a former nursing instructor to teach nursing at the Odessa Jr. College in Odessa, Texas. After teaching for two years Carol returned to Public Health work in Lewiston and Moscow, Idaho.
On April 23, 1966 Carol married Wayne Roy Heiskari. A few years later they welcomed a daughter, Lusina. In the early 1970’s the family moved to Boise where Wayne worked as a biologist for the State of Idaho.
Carol is survived by her husband, Wayne Heiskari; daughter, Lusina Heiskari; sister, Joan Field (Larry); sister, Jean Adamson (Franklin); sister, Mary Lou Barnes; brother, Ralph Barnes (Rhonda); sister, Shirlee Morris; sister-in-law, Karen Knapik; and 34 nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Pearl Barnes; sister, Patricia Kessler; nephew, Jared Morris; and niece, Laurel Wynn.
