Bernadette was born on December 26, 1947 in Charleston, SC, a daughter of the late Harold Oliver Mathisen, Sr. and Mary Magdalene Kanapaux Mathisen. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School and attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold “Tug” Mathisen, Jr.
Surviving is her husband, Thomas A. “Tag” Godfrey, St. George; daughters, Tanya G. Smith, St. George and Kimberly G. (Chris) Walters, Edisto Island; grandchildren, Thomas Rogers, Gracie Rogers, Savannah Walters, John-Conner Walters and Miles Walters; and a sister-in-law, Betty Mathisen, Charleston.
