Carol Elizabeth Bailey Hill left this earth to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 26, 2021. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Sarah Bailey, and her son, Daniel Thomas Hill. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of 45 years, Larry; her three children Stephenie Higgins; Karen Dover (Matt), Emily Hill; and her four grandchildren Raven Higgins and Ryan, Jacob and Norah Dover.
Carol was born on December 7, 1948 in Birmingham, Alabama and was the youngest with two older brothers, Benjamin and Richard Bailey. She grew up in East Lake, attending Robinson School and participating in many extra-curricular activities throughout her education until she graduated from Banks High School in 1966. Carol completed her Associate’s degree in Applied Science at Jefferson State Junior College in 1969 and took her first job at Blue Cross Blue Shield in a computer-related field. She met Larry through a mutual friend and co-worker and they dated, marrying on March 12, 1976. Many of their married years were spent living in Center Point and raising their children until they moved to Pelham, where they lived for the last 20 years.
Carol attended church from an early age and was a member at Bryan Memorial Presbyterian Church for the last several years. She was involved in the Children’s Ministry and Special Needs Ministry and instrumental in starting a Respite Care Night for parents of special needs children at her former church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and performing with the handbell music team. Carol loved the church and enjoyed fellowship with other believers through Bible study, Wednesday night dinners and Sunday School.
Family was very important to Carol and her house was full of pictures and photo albums of those who meant the most to her. She spent time researching family history and studying her genealogy to find out more about her roots. She was also a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed cross stitch and needlepoint and loved to give her creations as gifts to those she loved. Carol’s family and friends echo the same sentiments – she was very kind, a good friend and a devoted wife and mother – and they will remember her with thankfulness.
