Mrs. Carol Ann Uhlenberg-Williams, 78, of Homosassa, FL and formerly of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville, FL on Thursday, August 27, 2020. She was born in Worcester, MA on June 18, 1942 and was the daughter of Harold F. and Pearl G. (Lesperance) Leighton and is survived at home by her loving husband of 13 years, David Williams.
Surviving as well are children Robert W. (Carol) Uhlenberg of Lakeview, AR and Bethann (James) Brown of Homosassa; step-children Tony (Karen) Williams and Rena (Curt) LeBeau, both of Elkhart and Penny (Gregg) Majcherek of Apache Junction, AZ; brothers Bob (Linda) Leighton of Union. MI, Thomas “Gary” (Janice) Leighton of Edwardsburg, MI, Donald Leighton of Dandridge, TN and Terry (Kathleen) Renner from Modesto, CA; sister Rita (Lloyd) Frank from Edwardsburg; grandchildren Dewayne Uhlenberg, Ila (Justin) Heed, Rena Brown and Phillip Brown; 9 great grandchildren, the lovely great-aunt Elsie Talbot of Worcester, and her fur-babies Tiny, Buddy and Cali. Besides her late husband Robert L. Uhlenberg, who passed in May of 2003, Carol is preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia and brothers Harold, Earl, Danny, Joe and Dewayne Leighton.
Despite being born on the east coast, Carol was a bona fide country lady, and absolutely loved the simplicity of the life that went along with that. Sweet, modest and demure, Carol loved everyone, and even tended to worry about people she didn’t even know that well, just because they meant something to somebody that she was close to. She spent many years doing many different things, but her years working as a department manager at Wal-Mart were her favorite. Suffice it to say that she loved everything “Wal-Mart” — the customers, her work associates, Wal-Mart’s philosophy — and she cherished the chance she had to even meet Sam Walton at the Goshen store some years ago. She also loved listening to her old-school country music, spending time with her family, finding bargains at garage sales, tending to her little flower garden or cruising around in her 2008 Ford Mustang “dream” car. Finally, one would be remiss if it were not mentioned that Carol still had a close bond with her east coast roots, and had a nearly fanatical, die-hard love for the New England Patriots.
For those attending from out-of-state, please know that Indiana and Elkhart County are still under public health mask restrictions, so please bring a suitable face covering if you plan on visiting.
