Carol Ann Coffin Bolar Black (April 18, 1940 – June 19, 2020)
Carol Ann Bolar Black, our beloved mom, grandmother, and friend returned to her loving Heavenly Father on June 19, 2020. She was born on April 18,1940 to Richard Francis and Isabelle Marie Crosbie Coffin in Worcester, Massachusetts. She later moved to Utah and then California with her father’s job. While she described her life as an only child as lonely, she had very close connections with her family, cousins and her friends that she loved deeply.
She graduated from Los Lomas High School and then attended the College of Alameda in California. She worked as a dental nurse and then later worked as the accountant and bookkeeper for Bolar Ranches. She was also the founder of JCI Investors. She was the lead investor, buying and selling properties in California and Utah.
Carol enjoyed cooking, golfing, tennis, speaking Spanish, vacationing in Lake Tahoe, visiting the shops and beaches in Carmel and Monterey, and conversing with others on the phone. Her favorite time spent though was with her children and grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them, having family dinners, and supporting them in whatever they did. One of her grandchildren’s favorite memories is her handwritten cards and letters that were also accompanied with a gift card, money, or treat.
Carol was always the first person to call and wish you a “Happy Birthday”. She also went out of her way to make sure everyone was safe and that they had everything that they needed. She enjoyed talking on the phone to everyone.
She married Robert Dale Bolar in Carson City, Nevada. Together, they had three children. As a family, they lived in Orinda California and then moved to Winters, California, where they established Bolar Ranches and farmed over 2,000 acres of land. They grew and harvested walnuts, almonds, grapes, tomatoes, peaches, apricots, prunes, pears and several row crops. Carol took care of all of the finances for the Bolar Ranches which included payroll for over 500 employees.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was the matriarch of a family who took the missionary lesson, gained testimonies, and chose to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As a member, she served in a variety of callings. As a convert, her favorite calling was being a Ward Missionary and assisting with missionary work. She loved taking care of the missionaries by feeding them and providing the transportation needed to accomplish the Lord’s Work.
Carol is survived by her two children; Julie (Bradley) Weir, Robert (Suzanne) Bolar, five grandchildren (Brooke, Heather, and Ryan Weir; Abigail and Taylor Bolar); one great-grandchild (Brooklyn), and one more on the way in October. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Bolar, her husband, Robert Dale Bolar, her parents Richards and Isabelle Coffin, and her second husband, Iwan Black.
