Carmen was born in El Paso, Texas on October 23, 1943. Carmen’s father worked for the Corp of Engineers and as a result the family moved often from project to project. Approximately 40 years ago she put down roots in Taft, CA.
Over the years Carmen was active in various organizations including VFW Post #11012 Women’s Auxiliary, Taft Police Citizens Patrol and Taft Sportsmen’s Club. She helped teach the hunter safety course with her late husband Ray Mortimer. Carmen was very passionate about working with ceramics and china painting and she was the owner/operator of Carmen’s Ceramics. For several years you would find Carmen in her shop teaching her children, grandchildren, friends and customers the art of painting, glazing and firing ceramic items.
