Carmen Bernadette Roussel Gaudet passed tranquilly at the age of 89 on Wednesday September 14, 2016, surrounded by her loving sons and daughters-in-law. She was born on September 3, 1927 in Paulina, Louisiana. Carmen leaves behind her sons, James Jennings Gaudet (Jami), William Bernard Gaudet (Brigette), and Timothy Joseph Gaudet (Janice); daughter-in-law, Cathy Baer Gaudet; and brother, Wilson Roussel. She also leaves behind thirteen adoring grandchildren – Brett (Ashley), Allison (Ben), Ryan, Eric, Jeanne (Phil), Sean (Lindsey), Joby, Kyle (Alyse), Gerard, Kristen, Adrianne, Jacques, and Simone; 2 Step grandchildren, Britney and Brennan Schexnaydre; and four great grandchildren – Aubrey Gaudet, Caroline Gaudet, Philip Gaudet and Ruby Yarrow. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Milton Gerard Gaudet, Sr., her devoted son, Milton Gerard Gaudet, Jr. (Rooky), her parents Morgan Joseph and Carmen Ayme Roussel, and many loving sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Carmen Gaudet, better known as Cup, Mei Mei or even Groovy Grandma, graduated from LSU where she was a head Majorette for her beloved Tigers. She taught thousands of young girls for nearly 50 years, and is beloved by women of all ages throughout New Orleans and Louisiana. Her claim to fame though, was The Dominican Debs, the dance team she loved and founded in 1964 and directed for 37 years. Her iconic teams danced at Super Bowls, New Orleans Saints and Tulane football games, and numerous Mardi Gras Parades and dance competitions. In addition to her athleticism, Cup was a superb cook and had a passion for all sports with LSU, Tulane, Jesuit, the Saints and all that her sons and grandchildren played in.
