Carmella J. Raih, 73 of Freeport died Friday August 17, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on January 31, 1939 in Freeport she was the daughter of John and Anntonette (Pizzolato) Giuffre. Carmie and Don Raih were united in marriage on May 20, 1959 in Beloit, WI, he preceded her in death on September 18, 2002. Carmie enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and the Mississippi River. She was a surrogate mother to many and enjoyed entertaining, especially at Christmas.

Her house was always open to family and friends. Carmie had and laugh and smile that was contagious. Carmie was the first woman car salesperson in Freeport. She sold cars for Bachrodt, McNetts and Tormohlens where she won sales woman of the year in 1984. Among her many jobs she worked for E&W Clothing, Freeport Honda, Mickey’s Ice cream and Deli, Micro Switch and ended her career as a cashier at Freeport High School cafeteria. She volunteered many years at Blackhawk and Taylor Park Schools and was a Brownie Leader.

She was a member at Grace Episcopal Church having a strong faith in the Lord. Surviving are her children Julie Raih of Cedarville, Gregg Raih of Bullhead City, AZ; two grandchildren Andrew Thomas of Cedarville and Heather Thomas of Freeport; two step grandchildren Angela (Julio) Martinez, Christina Thomas both of Freeport; five step great grandchildren Breighanna, Isaac, Kimber-Ann, Austin and Annissa; friends Delores Blasing, Ann Mordick both of Freeport; two nieces Melissa (Tim) Bauer and Lisa (Cliff) Person both of Madison, WI.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, infant daughter Lisa and brother Frank.
